Rabbi Olivier's Focus for this year's High Holy Days: Life Beyond Fear

Have you noticed how much fear is driving our lives? We must protect ourselves from our credit identity being stolen, from our homes being burgled. We must arm ourselves to confront our next attacker. Politicians play on our fears, painting themselves as the only protectors from the evil other side of the aisle embodying all that we have to fear. And if that’s not enough then we need protection from that other country, this other people, that other religion threatening our way of life. We must protect ourselves from poverty, aloneness, sickness. It seems we have come to fear life itself.

Is there a way out of this or are we condemned to live in the life-bunker we have built around ourselves and continue to trade off living for increased security? Wouldn’t we be slightly happier if we could release a few of our fears?

These High Holy Days, Rabbi Olivier invites us to explore the nature of our fears so that we might, together, find ways to let a little more light shine through the cracks of our life-bunker and allow ourselves to live a more open and liberated human life.
